How to make the same venue look fresh each time

Let’s face it, when it comes to venue bookings and venue search, there aren’t many new spaces opening which usually means that people are booking the same venues often within the same family. Their next stop is to us – the Wedding Theming Company, with a very challenging brief – How can you make my wedding stand out and look different? So here are some hints and tips of what you can do differently if your find yourself booking the same venue as your friends, family or someone within your community!

Change the Floorplan

Venues are versatile these days so changing the floorplan to a different layout should not be a problem. Instead of the DJ being on Stage, perhaps move the top table there? Instead of having the guest tables facing the top table, what about changing this so that the top table is amongst all the tables. If there is a balcony, how about taking advantage of it and having a after party or chill out area there? Some small tweaks on floorplans can totally change the look of the venue so it feels like a different space. Try and speak to the venue and ask for their suggestions of how you could lay the room out differently. Most venues are really obliging and it’s great for them too, as it allows them to showcase the venue in a different way and present potential brides with other options!

Change the Product Selections

So, here’s another way of making your event different; weddings always have similar product selections – a top table, cake table, guest signing table and guests’ tables. Have you thought about a different way presenting the room? Street food is all the hype these days, so perhaps going for a casual reception with canapes and food floating all night instead of an actual set meal. If your venue allows it, maybe having buffet counters and bar tables for the event along with soft seating to change the vibe totally? How about having a stage area with a sofa and chairs instead of a traditional top table? Or having just a backdrop where the bride and groom greet guests as guests arrive instead of a traditional top table. Photobooths became the go to idea for social media moments and interactive entertainment but how about doing something different? What about creating selfie backdrops, immersive spaces and interesting features in the room that people take their picture in front of?  Guest signing areas and books have become a fond favourite for foyer areas and entrances, but perhaps we even turn that on its head! How about a graffiti wall that you can frame afterwards? Perhaps polaroid cameras on each of the tables where each group can take an image and leave a message? A truly exciting idea is going with a theme. We recently created a Paris Themed wedding for a bride – it was something out of the ordinary for guests to see and completely changed the look of the room. Themes make spaces feel different because the atmosphere is unusual. So many possibilities exist for themed weddings without feeling childish – Enchanted Woodland, Great Gatsby, Maharaja Theme, Moghul Themed, Alice in Wonderland Theme, Moroccan Theme  – the possibilities are endless……Whatever your product selections, it’s all about thinking out of the box when it comes to making the same space look and appear different. Be bold – people love it!

Ramp up the Rainbow

Colours can transform a venue and make spaces look different, larger, smaller depending on the colours that you choose. Don’t just go with what fashion says, create your own style by experimenting with colours, textures and styles. The more experimental you are, the more your event will stand out! If you want to understand what energy and emotions that different colours can stir up, read our last blog on the psychology of colour!

Final Thoughts

We know that everyone wants their wedding to be different and trying to find a new venue that houses large numbers is tough, so the alternative is about thinking outside the box and differently to bring newness to a space that you are familiar with. We have worked at the same venues for many years, but its what we bring in creative thinking that makes the same venue look different. We present some images from the very gorgeous new venue – The IXL Centre in Southam, some of you may know it as Dallas Burston Polo Club – take a look at how many times we’ve made the same venue look different!
